UK Heritage

Exploring the incredible history on your doorstep should be at the top of your list this year. From castles full of stories, to vast national parks, historic manor houses and much more, there is a wealth of UK heritage in every corner of the UK, perfect for your next staycation.

Here are just a couple of ideas for a beautiful UK heritage break:

Cotswolds

The rolling hills of the Cotswolds is a home from home for many, but there are so many undiscovered areas of this beautiful place. Almost 800 square miles of natural beauty await, whether you are staying for just a weekend or taking your time to explore all that the area has to offer there is something for everyone here.

Midlands

If you are looking for a great combination of heritage, fun and beauty then the Midlands are perfect for your next UK staycation. For theatre and entertainment head to Stratford Upon Avon, the home of Shakespeare. If you enjoy crisp country walks the Malvern Hills are an area of outstanding beauty in the Midlands. Their rolling hills are a beautiful backdrop to some fantastic UK mini breaks. Looking for a touch of splendor? A heritage break near Belvoir Castle is the ideal choice for those who love history. The family owned castle sits on land gifted by William the Conqueror, the area surrounding the castle is home to some lovely hiking trails.

City Breaks

The UK has plenty to offer when it comes to city breaks, and rather than just booking a hotel, we can really help you make the most of your city break staycation by adding on a few extras to help you get organised.

London

There’s always something new to discover in London! From the traditional sights such as the Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London, and Buckingham Palace, to some of the newer attractions such as the London Eye or any number of art galleries, it’s impossible to run out of ideas.

Whether you’re travelling as a family, a couple, or a group of friends, we can create the perfect package for you with accommodation, attractions, transport, or theatre tickets.

Edinburgh

If you want a magical holiday, a trip to Edinburgh is a must! The Scottish capital is filled with history, culture and charm so you will have more than enough to explore when visiting this gorgeous city. If you’re visiting for a long weekend, here are a few of the must-see locations and activities to consider:

  • Take a stroll down the Royal Mile, which is roughly the distance between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace (the Scottish residence of Elizabeth II). Here you will experience the sights and smells of Edinburgh, including shops selling fresh Scottish tablet (similar to fudge but more brittle and grainy), traditional kilts and much more.
  • Sitting on top of a volcano on Castle Rock is Edinburgh’s most visited site. The castle is a popular choice with tourists so make sure you head there early in the morning.
  • Hike up Arthur’s Seat, the extinct volcano provides you with fantastic views of the city from a completely different view point.
  • Keep and eye out for hidden streets, there is a whole other network of alleys underneath the city.

Looking for a romantic weekend in Edinburgh, a family reunion or a multi-stop Scottish adventure? Oxwich Travel can help you find your perfect trip.

Belfast

Explore the capital of Norther Ireland and learn more about the Emerald Isle. 2 days in Belfast can be the perfect amount time to explore the highlights of this vibrant city. Here are a few of the bits we think you should consider when planning a long weekend in Belfast:

  • A visit to the MAC is a must if you are an art lover. Belfast Metropolitan Arts Centre is home to several exhibitions which change regularly so it’s worth checking the website before going if there is a certain exhibition you’d like to see.
  • If you love art but prefer street art then keep an eye out for the Street Art walking tour which is put together by local street artists, it’s great to hear the meaning behind some of the pieces as many focus on political issues, and several international street artists have left their mark in Belfast.
  • Titanic Museum is a cornerstone of Belfast, built in the dockyards this famous vessel is a fairly new addition to the city, opening in 2021, 100 years after the Titanic sank. On the site of the original Harland & Wolff shipyard you can learn more about this incredible story.

We think a long weekend in Belfast is the perfect choice for your next staycation, contact our team who would be happy to find you a fantastic deal for a mini break in Belfast.

Cardiff

Our home city, we might be a little biased but we think it’s pretty great. The capital city of Wales, the home of dragons, castle and magic, there is so much to discover and Cardiff is just the tip of the iceberg.

  • Take time to visit two of the most beautiful castles in Wales, in fact you can see either castle from the highest point of each one. Cardiff Castle has grown over the years and sits right in the heart of the city. Castle Coch is located just a short distance outside of the city and is in fact not a castle at all, but a 19th-century Gothic Revival castle. It is a stately home designed to look like a castle for the 3rd Marquess of Bute.
  • Home to the Welsh rugby team, a tour of the Principality Stadium should be at the top of your list. Hosting dozens of large scale concerts, sports games and even a field hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic, this versatile venue dominates the skyline in Cardiff
  • Cardiff Bay is just a short distance from the city centre, and the location of the Wales Millennium Centre, possibly one of the most beautiful buildings in the UK.

Other Cities

It’s not just our capital cities with great visitor attractions, so why not pick something a little different.  Some ideas…

  • Chester
  • Liverpool
  • Birmingham
  • York
  • Bristol
